Our realtor John Thompson suggested that we look at the floor plan of a house on the beach road that was built by Matt Tappero, President of Coastal Construction of North Carolina Inc. John was very complimentary of Matt and highly recommended him to us as a potential builder for our new house.
Barbara and I really like the layout of the house and the open flow of the living room kitchen and dining area on the top floor so we set up a meeting to talk to Matt. After the meeting with Matt we hired him and began the building process. During the initial planning progress we asked Matt about some modifications that we wanted to make and asked for estimates on the additional costs. Throughout the planning and building process, Matt was very open to accommodating our needs and was very fair and upfront with his cost estimates. In many cases we would suggest one thing and Matt would see additional potential and made great suggestions that we adopted.
As a result we ended up with a house that we love that will meet our families needs for many years to come. Matt was very flexible reasonable and fair. Matt pays attention to details built a quality house and he was very accessible to us throughout the entire process occasionally we need to contact Matt for advice and he is still very happy to help us.

Matt Tappero worked with us to find a fantastic lot (his wife, Denice, is a real estate agent, and she even helped us purchase it), and together we designed our home. Matt provided numerous on-target ideas and suggestions, and he funneled us toward house plans that met our needs. We still customized quite a bit of the design, and he confidently translated our scribbled napkins into a beautiful home.
Moving into the material selection and construction phase, my wife and I went out of our way to find eco-friendly, reclaimed, interesting and unique materials to incorporate into the home. We refurbished an old claw-foot tub, repurposed old doors, picked up glass blocks from the curb on trash day, and ordered quite a bit of off-spec reclaimed wood flooring.
The result is a beautiful home with ocean views and reclaimed features galore. I credit Matt’s years of expertise, his careful selection of quality subcontractors, his attention to detail and easy-going nature. Honestly, we must have been a challenge to work with, but you’d never have known it in how Matt treated us.
